Thirty-four years after the disappearance of Angélique, then aged 19, investigators were finally able to determine what happened to her. The young woman is indeed dead. After decades of speculation, his DNA was identified on a skull.

Years of unbearable waiting. After 34 years of mystery, those close to Angélique Hendrix will be able to begin their mourning. The young woman disappeared in July 1990, in the Netherlands. Decades later, Interpol announces that the skull found not far from his home is indeed his.

Disturbing disappearance

Angélique lived with her parents in Stein, the Netherlands. One summer morning, she left her home without returning that evening. A wanted notice was issued, then a investigation into disturbing disappearance. Ten months later, a skull was found not far from the town, this time on the Belgian side.

“The case remained unsolved until a recent change in Belgian law allowed DNA profiles to be shared with Interpol’s I-Familia database.”explains the organization in a press release.

Collaboration internationale

Thus, thanks to a trivial change in the rules, 34 years later, the authorities were able to gather the information they had to elucidate this mystery: “Further research and collaboration involving Belgium and the Netherlands have confirmed the identification of Angélique.”

“The major breakthrough in the identification of Angélique was achieved thanks to the efforts of Belgian and Dutch law enforcement and the crucial role of I-Familia in providing answers to the families of missing people,” welcomed Interpol Secretary General Jürgen Stock.

Before recalling that: “In missing persons cases, international cooperation plays a vital role in enabling investigators to put together the different pieces of the puzzle surrounding a person’s disappearance.”
