The hybrid event was co-organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), the National Committee for Digital Transformation and the Ministry of Information and Communication.

Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang, who is also permanent vice chairman of the National Committee for Digital Transformation, said major IT companies should play a central role in this process, based on the necessary information and data provided by the area.

He then tasked the agricultural sector to collaborate with the Ministry of Public Security to expedite the registration of fishing vessels, thereby contributing to efforts to combat illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing.

Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Minh Hoan said his ministry has worked with other ministries and sectors to integrate digital technologies into agriculture, such as remote sensing technology and digital platforms to serve of product traceability.

Nguyên Hoài Nam, deputy secretary-general of the Vietnam Association of Aquatic Products Exporters and Producers (VASEP), said digital transformation could help aquatic businesses reduce costs by between 7% and 25%.

Nguyên Quôc Toan, Director of the Center for Digital Transformation and Agricultural Statistics at MARD, emphasized the need to digitize data by improving digital platforms, applications and big data systems within the sector. This would enable seamless data connection and sharing with the national database and national data center in a unified and seamless manner.

However, as we heard at the ceremony, the digitalization process now faces many challenges, including limited awareness and skills in applying digital technologies, as well as insufficient coordination and linkages between stakeholders such as state management agencies, scientists, agribusinesses, technology companies, cooperatives and farmers.

Duong Trong Hai, representative of Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Group (VNPT), suggested investing in leading agricultural enterprises ready for digitalization. In turn, they will guide cooperatives and farmers, creating a digital marketplace.
