The finance bill (PLF), presented this Thursday by the government, plans to increase the environmental tax which would now affect 80% of vehicles.
Bad news for those planning to buy a new car. The 2025 finance bill (PLF) provides for a “strengthening of penalties on CO2 emissions from passenger vehicles”, revealed Antoine Armand, the Minister of the Economy, during the press conference presenting the PLF this Thursday. A way of“encourage French and foreign manufacturers to deploy as a priority a range of electric cars on our territory.
On the program: the gradual lowering of the car penalty threshold from 118 g/Km today to 99 g/Km in 2027, with two levels at 113 g/Km in 2025 and 106 g/Km in 2026. The maximum amount of the tax paid when purchasing a vehicle concerned will also be increased by 10,000 euros per year until 2027, from 60,000 euros today to 90,000 euros in three years. The weight tax, known as “mass penalty” is also widened: its trigger threshold will be lowered in 2026 from 1600 kg to 1500…
