electric, mild hybrid and a 7-seater version on the approach

After the Peugeot 3008 and 5008 and the Opel Grandland, it will be the turn of the Citroën C5 Aircross to move to the second generation. In 2025, the compact SUV from the double chevron brand will also opt for electric. But it could very well have a surprise in store for us in the form of a 7-seater version. Should we then call this latest Citroën C7 Aircross?

In the spring In 2025, the second generation of the Citroën C5 Aircross will be revealed. Everything in its time, the year 2024 is that of the revival of small sizes, the versatile Citroën C3 sedan then the urban SUV C3 Aircross are in the spotlight.

Next year it will be the turn of the compact SUV to adopt the brand’s new identity.

Electric and mild hybrid in addition to PHEV

Known under the internal code CR3, the C5 Aircross Mk2 will, like the current version, be launched in January 2019 then restyled in May 2022, manufactured in the Rennes-la-janais factory (35). On the other hand, everything will change starting with the STLA Medium technical platform that the new C5 Aircross will inherit from the renewed Peugeot E-3008 and Opel Grandland before it. A modern chassis which will offer it electric motors with a power of 210 and 230 hp in two-wheel drive and at the top of the range a twin-motor variant accumulating 320 hp. Unless this cutting-edge version is not compatible with the new positioning of the brand. In any case, it is possible if necessary.

However, the SUV from the herringbone brand will not close the door to thermal technology. At the entry level, a version powered by the three-cylinder 1.2 PureTech block equipped with 48V mild-hybrid technology will have 136 hp. And for corporate fleets, a plug-in hybrid version will generate around 200 hp and be capable of driving 100 km in electric mode. For the record, the current C5 Aircross PHEV has 225 hp and runs on battery power for 64 km.

On board, the Citroën C5 Aircross will not benefit from the spectacular iCockpit of the new Peugeot E-3008. This 21-inch curved slab will remain the prerogative of the lion brand. The C5 Aircross will steal the tiles from its first cousin. It will therefore focus more on an Opel Grandland-style layout (see photo above) with a 16-inch diagonal panoramic screen on the high-end versions (and expect 10 inches on the access versions) accompanied by a instrumentation on a 10-inch panel.

The Citroën will obviously have specific furniture and its own storage solutions.. However, on the central console, the power selector trigger and the mode selector will be common to the three brands.

C5 Aircross: the ideal in-between 3008 and 5008?

Between a Peugeot 3008 going all out on a dynamic SUV Coupé silhouette even if it means sacrificing a little accessibility and versatility and a 5008 designed for 7, the Citroën C5 Aircross therefore has a card to play for families not too large . Although… According to our information, a 7-seater version of the Citroën C5 Aircross was also part of the project. Will it retain the same format as the 5-seater – as is the case at the lower level in the range with the new C3 Aircross capable of accommodating 7 passengers – or, on the contrary, will it stand out? by a stretched stern?

In any case, that will be the end of the three independent seats of the same width in the second row. In this location, the Citroën C5 Aircross should inherit the sliding bench seat of the Peugeot 5008 which is certainly less modular than the layout that the current C5 Aircross has stolen from the Grand C4 Picasso minivan but still allows for easy installation in the third row. A Citroën C5 Aircross XL or a C7 Aircross, a clear name in terms of its capacity but hardly becoming to the ear, in any case the succession of the C-Crosser finally seems assured. .
