Thirty-six thousand square meters of commercial space have sprung up in 6 years in Aurillac. And it’s not over. The Sport 2000 brand is awaiting the green light from the Departmental Commercial Development Commission to establish itself in the city-prefecture.

The Departmental Commercial Development Commission (CDAC) was due to examine a new commercial project in Aurillac on Monday May 6, early in the afternoon.

On the agenda of the eleven members, seven local elected officials including the mayor of Aurillac and four qualified people in terms of consumption, sustainable development and regional planning: the creation of a commercial complex with a surface area of total sale of 1,670 m2 in the city-prefecture, integrating the Sport 2000 brand which would have 800 m2 of sales area in an already very competitive sector, with Decathlon and Intersport.

Questioned on the explosion of square meters of commercial space by right-wing opposition councilor Marie-José Ortigues, Pierre Mathonier gave his position at a municipal council meeting last March:

The mayor can oppose any CDAC of more than 1,000 m2. I respected this principle despite pressure despite pressure from everyone

How did the mayor of Aurillac position himself? This is unknown because the CDAC’s decision on this project has not yet been made public.
