An altercation ended in the death of a 46-year-old man on Saturday outside a McDonald’s in Houston (Texas). According to a local police report, a customer unhappy with the order he had received began yelling at staff members, demanding a refund. Jeffrey Limmer, an attorney who was also at the fast food restaurant at the time, tried to calm the individual and ease tensions.

The civic act of the forty-year-old unfortunately backfired. The two customers went out to explain themselves and at one point, Jeffrey Limmer pushed the individual, who fell to the ground. The man then went to his vehicle, grabbed a pistol and shot the lawyer before fleeing in a blue pickup. As of Wednesday, the perpetrator of the fatal shooting had not yet been found and the police launched an appeal for witnesses.

The victim’s sister clearly recognizes Jeffrey in the story of the last minutes of his life. “Jeff was always the one to calm things down, the one to “escalate” situations. He always wanted to defend David against Goliath and do what was right. (…) He acted like a good Samaritan by not letting the McDonald’s employees suffer this,” Jennifer Thomas told ABC13. The American flag flying in front of the establishment was lowered to half-mast.
