(Ecofin Agency) – In June 2022, Eni announced the successful connection of the Coral Sul FLNG floating natural gas liquefaction infrastructure to the Coral South field, located in the Rovuma basin in Mozambique.

The Coral Sul FLNG floating natural gas liquefaction unit deployed for two years on the Coral South gas project strengthens its position as the second largest LNG facility in the world thanks to the successful trial of the AP-DMR™ LNG technology introduced in the framework of its operation.

According to details provided Monday, May 6 by Air Product, the company which supplied most of the gas processing equipment for the installation, this technology made it possible to test the capabilities of Coral Sul FLNG in terms of efficiency, reliability and operational.

The company also specifies that the introduction of the AP-DMR™ LNG as part of the operationalization of the gas platform, has favored the exceeding of the annual production plateau of 3.4 million tonnes of LNG without however provide figures for added gas production.

If overall this development confirms the capabilities of the installation to operate in “difficult offshore conditions”, it signals the role that technological advances can play in meeting growing global energy demand while facilitating the efficient exploitation of natural gas.

Remember that the Coral South project, whose first gas cargoes were exported in December 2022, is operated by Eni (25%) with partners ExxonMobil (25%), CNPC (20%) and ENH (10%), Galp ( 10%) and Kogas (10%).
