Minister Éric Caire’s digital identity project is coming, it’s coming… Not! His promise is frozen, allegedly due to lack of manpower.

Digital identity was supposed to offer Quebecers a mobile application giving access to all government services on their phone by 2025. The project announced in 2019 failed in the face of labor scarcity.

“We have the talent in Quebec, so if we paid the salaries, if we really set up a team of experts to do this type of project, there would be no problem,” retorts Éric Parent, cybersecurity expert and CEO of EVA Technologies.

According to him, no one wants to work for the government because of the poor management of their projects.

“When you go to the government website, the only thing that is consistent is the logo in the top left corner,” quips the cybersecurity expert.

He deplores that the political aspect has taken over the balance of the project. Between the painful use of clicSÉQUR and the ArriveCAN scandal, Éric Caire would be the laughing stock of the world of cybersecurity.
