Founded in 2019, the EPFL Swiss Solar Boat association designed a boat powered by solar energy with the aim of participating in the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge in 2021. Despite the success, the Dahu still has a limit : endurance. Indeed, the combination of solar panels and the lithium battery does not provide sufficient energy density to ensure its continuous flight at medium and high speeds. This is why the association turned to green hydrogen as a complementary energy vector.

Heading towards passenger transport

The objective for spring 2024 was the crossing of Lake Geneva between Lausanne and Evian (13 km). A route not chosen at random since it represents 40% of the transport of people on the lake. If the current prototype can only accommodate the pilot, a new model in the production phase will be able to have three passengers on board. The completion of this crossing represents, in the eyes of the association, the culmination of a new stage towards green mobility.

The opportunity to look at what green hydrogen represents, in comparison to the various other existing types of hydrogen.
