Kia promises 2025 EV9 GT with “enormous” power | Automotive news

While presenting its results for the first quarter of 2024, Kia took the opportunity to share a speech from its CEO, recorded during the company’s investor day, which took place at beginning of this month.

The Motor1 site, which took an interest in the matter, discovered interesting information concerning the EV9 electric SUV and the future GT version which will join the range at the beginning of 2025.

What caught the attention was the mention of the word “huge” in reference to the power that the model will offer. Kia speaks of a 0 to 100 km/h which will be completed in just four seconds. Considering the weight of this beast at nearly 6,000 pounds, that remains an impressive figure.

Currently, the most powerful version of the model offers 379 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque.

Kia does not talk about autonomy, which risks taking its toll, unless we modify the composition of the battery or any other component to compensate for this inevitable reality. The current GT- model, the one with 379 horsepower, offers 451 km of autonomy, rather than the 480 of the base version.

The Kia EV9, off-road

The other thing that catches the eye is that Kia mentions that the GT model will benefit from more robust suspension adjustments and improved brakes.

The Kia EV9’s suspension is both firm and supple. Due to the weight of the model, it remains permissive, to prevent it from hitting too much. On the other hand, on rough surfaces, it jumps at the rear, to the point where instability is present beyond 100 km/h. Having experienced a situation where the rear danced a little too much for my taste on a section of highway with uneven surface, the idea of an even firmer suspension on such a heavy vehicle is perplexing.

We’ll see.

Other interesting information filtered through the executive’s video, including confirmation that the EV3 and EV4 should debut before the end of this year.
