Labor file in Aude: hotel and catering professions, leading sector in terms of recruitment
Descriptive text here

According to the Travail survey on workforce needs for 2024, recruitment intentions in hotel and catering professions are in decline even if they remain in first place. Co-director of the Union of Hotel Trades and Industries (UMIH) of Aude, Thierry Deniau spoke about the multiple needs of the different sectors.

The years go by and are similar for certain sectors of activity. On Wednesday April 24, France Travail (formerly Pôle emploi) unveiled its annual survey on workforce needs for 2024. A dense file containing numerous data at the national level but also at the departmental level.

Among the elements collected, one in particular stands out in Aude: the hotel and catering professions intend to launch major recruitment phases throughout the year. In detail, the number of recruitment projects for kitchen helpers and multi-skilled catering employees rises to 1,610 in 2024, the third most sought after sector out of 10.

Digging further, we realize that the coastline is particularly affected. In the Narbonnais basin, 1,170 recruitment projects are expected in 2024 for the professions mentioned above. Not far behind, 810 projects for café-restaurant servers are listed, 350 for cooks as well as 300 projects for hotel employees. In the other three basins (, Limoux and Castelnaudary), the figures displayed are not as high but the needs still exist.

The situation has not changed drastically

Faced with this observation, Thierry Deniau, co-director of the Union of Hotel Trades and Industries (UMIH) within the department, confirms the trends expressed via these data. He expresses himself : “As France Travail has raised, we are doing a lot of research in these sectors, which are important to the basins, like last year. If the figures are slightly lower (1,220 recruitment projects in and its surroundings in 2023, Editor’s note), the situation has not changed drastically, whether in Carcassonne, via Castelnaudary and obviously the coast, we are opening the doors wide to seasonal workers and other more traditional contracts.

Existing solutions

If applications are more than welcome for the co-director, the UMIH de l’Aude is not content to wait. Thierry Deniau specifies: “We are carrying out an action, organized jointly with France Travail, entitled Job’Chef. This is a competition taking place at the regional level but available to each of the 13 departments. Job seekers create recipes submitted to a jury , continue with a training course and in-company internships.”

If this option exists, it remains insufficient to meet all the needs within these sectors of activity. “With the season fast approaching, we urgently need reinforcements”concludes Thierry Deniau.
