Apple “turned a page on the Apple calendar” by unveiling its latest iPhone on Monday, September 9, at its annual conference at its headquarters in Cupertino, California, observes Wired. “No surprisewrites the specialist media somewhat wearily, This new model is the iPhone 16, after the iPhone 15”.

The range – which includes the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max – will be available from September 20 at prices ranging from $799 for the entry-level iPhone 16 (970 euros in France), to a minimum of $1,199 (1,480 euros) for the iPhone 16 Pro Max.

The Wall Street Journal notes “few hardware innovations”apart from a new Camera Control button dedicated to taking photos. The innovation is elsewhere: this new generation puts artificial intelligence (AI) “in the foreground”.

New chip

The phones feature the new A18 chip, which Apple describes as “the fastest processor in any smartphone.” This will make it possible to take advantage of all the features of Apple Intelligence, its new generative AI system.

The company announced that key elements of its Apple Intelligence offering will launch in English for the United States starting next month, and will be rolled out with a “localized English” in the UK, Australia, Canada, New Zealand and South Africa in December. Chinese, Japanese, French and Spanish will also be available.

These new functions are “an improved Siri, writing aids, and mail and notification summaries”list the Financial Times. “Together, they represent the first wave of artificial intelligence applications that Apple hopes will transform consumer devices.”

“The tech giant is looking to breathe new life into it” to the iPhone, “its flagship product”whose sales are declining, “by betting […] on a regular deployment of new generative AI functions”sums up the British newspaper.
