The CSN is launching a boycott campaign

The CSN is launching a boycott campaign against Amazon, following the announcement of the closing of warehouses in Quebec of the retail giant.
The workers of the Amazon Laval warehouse had accredited a union, attached to the Commerce Federation, affiliated to the CSN, last April. However, they had not yet managed to negotiate their first collective agreement.
It was the only Amazon warehouse in Quebec where workers were unionized. However, a unionization campaign was underway in other establishments.
On January 22, Amazon announced that he was changing his business model in Quebec and would therefore close all his warehouses.
According to the employees of these warehouses and those of subcontractors who lose their jobs in stride, around 4,500 workers are affected, reports the CSN.
During a press conference on Tuesday in Montreal, the president of the CSN, Caroline Senneville, claimed to see an anti -syndical gesture. “This decision, it comes at a time when there are other attempts to unionize elsewhere in Canada. And it is, in our opinion, an intimidation measure with regard to these workers. ”
The power station is therefore launching an Amazon boycott campaign, inviting the public to participate. It therefore invites consumers to buy Quebecers or Canadian.
“A few million less turnover for Amazon, they may not be tons. But a few million more in the turnover of Quebec companies, it can make the difference between a Quebec company that survives, then a Quebec company that progresses, “she illustrates.
This CSN campaign occurs while a larger movement has been launched in Canada aimed at boycotting American companies, in the wake of customs duties on Canadian products, announced by US President Donald Trump – Well that the imposition of these rights was postponed by one month on Monday.
Ms. Senneville hopes that the governments of Canada, Quebec, municipalities and public organizations will end up breaking up at Amazon and put an end to their infonuagic contract with the multinational. “We want to do a political campaign.”
The Union Central also provides for an event supporting the cause, on February 15 in Montreal.
The power station also mentions a possible legal appeal against Amazon, by invoking articles of the labor code dealing with interference, obstacle to union activities. However, the process could be long.
The union center ultimately hopes to obtain financial compensation for workers affected by these closures.
