Two Consignaction collection points in Quebec by the end of the week

The citizens of Quebec and the surrounding area will no longer be forced to go into line in front of the supermarket kobuses: two centers dedicated only to the collection of the recorded containers will open their doors in the National Capital this week.

A first place of collection Consignation managed by the Quebec Association for Boisson Containers (AQRCB) opened its doors at 5785, boulevard des Gradins on Tuesday. The opening of a second harvesting point is also planned in downtown Quebec later this week.

Depending on the volume, the organization which oversees the modernization of the instruction believes that it can accept and sort between 2.5 and 7 million containers per year in each of its “shops”.

The major Consignation+ centers offer several additional services, including companies, in addition to the collection of containers. Each of them can treat more than 25 million cans and bottles per year. There are currently six in Quebec, but none is in the Quebec region for the moment.

Automatic sorting

Sophisticated machines that are made available to users automatically sort between the different materials and classify them themselves by category, without the citizens having to change their machine, as is the case with the grocery store.

The newspaper has also received confirmation that the latest CRI goofuses will be able to record all glass drinking containers, without additional investment, when they are accepted in 2027.

Recall that the instruction of bottles of spirits and wine has been pushed two years by the Quebec government following failures that have created delays in delivery. An investigation was also opened in December to understand what happened.

Nearly 50 collection points

Rather than the 200 harvesting points announced by the AQRCB when it accepted the government’s mandate to expand the instructions in 2022, it is rather 47 harvest branches which should be based by the beginning of next month.

On January 22, The press revealed that the organization was paralyzed in the development of new collection places since its creditor, the Banque de Montréal, refuses to finance the project for fear that the government will withdraw the contract from the organization following the investigation in course.

Although she refused to comment on the financing file, spokesperson Annie Jolicoeur, of the AQRCB, assures that “all the branches whose development work had already started to open their doors as expected” before 1is mars.

Thanks to the Express return counter, it will no longer be necessary to sort your containers yourself. It is possible to take all your instructions in a transparent bag which will then be sorted by the AQRCB teams. Users must first download the CONSIGNACTION application to be able to obtain their refund once sorting has been carried out. The money will then be stored on the application until the user has reached the sum of $ 25. It will then be possible to transfer this amount to your bank account by interac.

“We had promised to the government that we could count on 1,200 collection places by the start of the second phase of modernization of the instruction in 2025. By including all the partner businesses and our dedicated return centers, we have widely exceeded This objective since it has more than 3500, ”she argues.

The AQRCB remains “confident in its ability to deploy phase three of the widening of the setpoint with drink containers recorded in glass and multilayer cardboard by 2027”, despite the pitfalls that multiply on its way.
