Multiple slowdowns of REM service: winter systems of cars in question

The multiple slowdowns of this week on the Metropolitan Express Network would be partly caused by problems linked to the winter systems of REM cars.

A third slowdown in service in less than 24 hours was underway on Tuesday afternoon, while although cars were still circulating, a shuttle service was also deployed.

The Metropolitan Express Network would thus be struggling with a limited availability of its cars in recent days due to the too frequent maintenance needs of their winter systems.

“The teams of our supplier of rolling stock, Alstom, indicate that the use of winter systems leads to frequent maintenance of cars,” said the REM in a declaration sent to the QMI agency.

These systems apply additional pressure on the wheels during braking to generate heat to melt snow and ice.

“The maintenance required on cars affects the availability of the fleet, especially in recent days,” it is added. We understand the frustration of users and we ensure that our partners deploy immediate and long -term solutions. ”

A power failure paralyzed the network for several hours in the middle of rush hour on Monday evening, while two slowdown in service occurred during the day on Tuesday.
