IIt is followed by the port of Casablanca (25.80 MT) and that of Agadir (6.52 MT), according to the 2022 edition of the report of the Observatory of the competitiveness of ports managed by the port. National Ports Agency (ANP).
For the port of Nador, the volume of port traffic amounts to 3.8 MT, down 2.3%, while for the port of Safi, the OCPM reports port traffic which rises. to 5.6 MT, down 13.8%.
Concerning the port of Laâyoune, 1.8 MT of goods passed through there during the year 2022, down 15.9%, notes the same source.
Overall, port activity in 2022 is down 4.2%, reaching a volume of 87.2 MT compared to 91 MT a year previously. By nature of flow, the volume of imported goods amounts to 52.2 MT, up 2.4%.
“The positive variation in imports is explained on the one hand by the increase in traffic and cereals (+23.2%) and hydrocarbons (+10%) and on the other hand by the drop in sulfur imports (- 8.4%), and sulfuric acid (-39.8%) and steel products (-18.1%)“, explains the report.
-In value terms, imports of goods are up 39.6%, amounting to more than MAD 737.72 billion in 2022 compared to MAD 528.57 billion in 2021.
-As for exports, the volume of goods reached 27 MT, down 18.5%.
According to the same source, the change in exports is mainly attributed to the decline in foreign sales of phosphates (-42.7%), fertilizers (-16.6%) and phosphoric acid (-29. 3%).
“Excluding phosphate products, exports marked an increase of 10.1%, with an additional volume of 885,903 tonnes, explained by the increase in salt traffic (+418.3%) and clinker (+30.2% ) »notes the report, noting that in terms of value, exports amount to more than 456.10 billion dirhams in 2022, an increase of 29.4%.
