Episode 21, season 2024-2025. Never has the lead in the Departmental 1 championship been so contested. An update with Frédéric Dumand, the coach of ES Livarot (2nd) which lost this weekend against CS Orbec – La Vespière (5th).

Frédéric, your team lost to CS Orbecquois Vesperois. What do you remember from your team's performance?

Frustration because the draw would have been logical. We could have continued our invincibility streak. Orbec undoubtedly had more of an obligation to achieve results than we did, but in deciding to wait for it, we made a mistake. We lacked impact.

We give this goal on a mistake that we pay for in cash. We came back from the locker room with more aggression and we put our opponent in difficulty. We are unfairly denied a goal and, as we continue to push, we miss a penalty. We have to get back to work.

“We are constantly progressing”

Nevertheless, you remain firmly in your second place. Five points behind RSG Courseulles (1ᵉʳ) but with one game in hand…

This day of delay does not guarantee us the three points. Especially since we will face USC Mézidon (10th) (B). We could have distanced ourselves from Orbec. We will have to recover these three points, this weekend, at Saint-Désir (3ᵉ) even if the match promises to be difficult. We cannot hide.

We are constantly progressing. When I arrived at the club, three years ago now, it was still bruised by its relegation. I promised myself to bring it back to the regional level as quickly as possible and this objective was stated from the start of the season. Let's let the next five games go by and we can position ourselves.

What do you think is the best match of your season? Is it this third round of the Coupe de France won, on penalties (0-0; 4 tab 2) against RC Pacy-Ménilles (R1)?

RSG Courseulles is superior to us but the championship is homogeneous. Even mid-table teams manage to achieve good results. Due to our solidity, our victory against Castelet FC (6-1) is undoubtedly our best match of the season. One of the only ones that we mastered from the first to the last minute.

On the other hand, we completely missed out on our trip to Orbec at the very start of the season. I didn't recognize my players who had the lead in the Coupe de France. We left a lot of energy there. The return to the championship was difficult and cost us some points.

What do you think makes the strength of your workforce?

We were not spared from injuries. The more time passes, the smaller our squad becomes, but we can rely on a base of around twenty players. The objective is to expand it to be able to benefit from the effects of competition.

The group has changed little in three years. We certainly had four important departures or stops, but these were offset by just as many arrivals of both sporting and human quality. There is quality in this group. We are very demanding of him but his strength is his self-sacrifice and his sense of work.
