Camille Kouchner launches into fiction with “Immortels”, at Seuil

Four years later The big family (Seuil), a real shock wave (285,000 copies sold in large format and 100,000 in paperback according to Gfk) which allowed the emergence of the #MeTooInceste movement, Camille Kouchner introduces himself to fiction with Immortals. Announced for April 4 in its publisher’s release program, the book is labeled “first novel”, while its author is soberly presented as “doctor of law” et “lecturer at the University”.

Two protagonists

Concerning the work, a single element of presentation, a short extract, presages the existence of two protagonists. “It is in fact a man and a woman, who have known each other since childhood and have therefore shared many moments of life together. Approaching fifty, the woman, who is also the narrator, returns to herself”we learn from the editions of Le Seuil.

A narrative framework which therefore seems very different from the content of The big familybook in which Camille Kouchner accused her father-in-law Olivier Duhamel of incest. The author also spoke of her close ties with her twin, named in the book “Victor” and who, according to her, was the victim of sexual assault and rape committed by Olivier Duhamel.

The politician, targeted by an investigation by the prosecutor’s office opened immediately after the publication of the book in January 2021, admitted incest during a hearing before the Minors Protection Brigade. But due to the statute of limitations on the facts, dating from the end of the 1980s, the case could not be pursued in court.
