At 87 years old, Karola Grabert wrote this book, a life story to answer the many questions from those around her about her tormented life journey. To achieve her goals, she surrounded herself with the services of Nelly who works within her company “Lili Plume” and provides assistance in drafting writings in all media.
Karola opens up and recounts her choice to live in France and the difficulty of being accepted in this country when you are German: the memory of the three wars which opposed these two countries was strong: “I felt concerned but not guilty ! Camping on the past does not make us move forward…”
After 65 years spent in France, the small German bookseller has transformed over the years. She has adapted to the episodes of a life strewn with unexpected events.
“I contacted Nelly following an advert published in Montceau News. We started work in January 2024.”
Karola’s goal was to surprise her son Frédéric and give him the finished book for his birthday, at the end of November 2024.
“We met once or twice a week, on Fridays for sessions of two to three hours. Based on Karola’s diary, photographs from all periods and long discussions, my intervention was mainly based on coherence, clarity and bringing a certain chronology to the process while typing the final text,” explains Nelly.
“We talked a lot and laughed a lot with beautiful moments of emotion, strong moments! »
“I was afraid of missing the point. It’s not tearful. There are ups, downs, doubts…”
The deadlines were met and the book was printed in August 2024.
Karola gave the book to her children as planned, who discovered many facets of her life journey, the little German bookseller, who became a full-fledged Frenchwoman.
