Since the return from the Christmas holidays, the town of Argenton has set up a school cycle bus. Every day, he takes around eight children, who attend the Paul-Bert nursery school, from the Chambons campsite to their establishment.
This is a line whose bus service had been removed. Morning and evening, two municipal agents transport these young students in an electrically assisted quadricycle.
Gentle and soon active mobility
The project was born from a request from residents concerned by line A, which connects the Chambons campsite to the Paul-Bert school, and from the municipality's concern to maintain school transport, while associating it with an ecological objective.
The cyclo-bus has three stops: at the Chambons campsite, its starting point, in Saint-Étienne and at the Saint-Amand station. In the morning, departure takes place at 8 a.m., arriving at 8:40 a.m. at the nursery school. « It's very nice for children and the idea is also to raise awareness of another mode of transport and road safety », Explains Clément Sapin, deputy mayor, in charge in particular of school affairs. A chalet was specially built inside the Paul-Bert school to house the vehicle.
-The first cyclo-bus in Indre
The municipality wishes above all to listen to parents and children in this somewhat innovative mode of transport, there will first of all be a test phase lasting six months, until the summer holidays, before it invests in a more efficient vehicle, which will offer children the possibility of pedaling themselves. Indeed, this sustainable mobility is intended « inclusive and educational »as Jessica Alleaume, municipal councilor, recalls. For these two vehicles, wearing a helmet and yellow vest is obligatory.
By offering this first cycle bus in the department, the town of Argenton is a pioneer for this type of school mobility and could thus inspire other municipalities.
