Amateur developers had to stop the creation of a mod recreating the world of “GTA 4” in “GTA 5”, creating misunderstanding.
If Rockstar had offered remastered editions of GTA III, GTA: Vice City et GTA: San Andreas, Grand Theft Auto 4the first opus on “HD” consoles released in 2008 on Xbox 360 and Playstation 3, was never entitled to the same treatment. Amateur developers therefore gathered with the aim of recreating the city of Liberty City (which is inspired by New York) with the engine of GTA 5.
A project that caught the attention of many fans of the franchise, but which has just been banned by Rockstar. On Discord, one of the creators of this mod called “Liberty City Preservation Project” announced the bad news.
“Due to the unexpected attention our project has generated and after speaking with Rockstar Games, we have decided to stop development of the Liberty City Preservation Project,” says nkjellman.
Rockstar prepares for GTA 6
Very protective of its licenses, Rockstar is not its first attempt. The studio, which is hard at work on Grand Theft Auto VIhad already acted in the same way for other mods intended for GTA 5including one allowing artificial intelligence to control a server GTA Online. Another, bringing virtual reality into Red Dead Redemption 2had also been aborted.
A few years ago, before the release of the remastered trilogy, a mod recreating Vice City was banned so that players would be redirected to an official version announced shortly after.
If rumors surrounding an updated version of GTA 4 have seen the light of day over the years, returns to the trilogy III/Vice City/San Andreaslaunched with numerous bugs, would nevertheless have frozen its development. The development of the trilogy was nevertheless entrusted to the studio Grove Street Games, therefore not encroaching on that of GTA 6which is designed internally at Rockstar.
However, we can imagine that such a project recreating GTA 4 on the engine GTA 5 could attract enough attention to pollute future communication around the sixth episode of the franchise. This has remained in the fog since its first trailer in December 2023.
