Developing, coordinating and disseminating genealogical and historical research in relation to past or present inhabitants of the Manche department is one of the priorities of the Généa 50 association and its members, in Fermanville (Manche). The association innovates by offering a little more lightness in relation to genealogical and historical research. Our news is available at the start of the year with exhibitions, second-hand book sales, paleography courses, historical meetings, videos and book loans in our library located at Place Marie-Ravenel, in Fermanville.
underlines Xavier Gardin, member of the association.

A historical book
On Saturday January 11, 2025, the association celebrated the official release of the first book it published. A work entitled: Rue du Faubourgwritten by David Châtel. He has reconstructed the history of this old street in Cherbourg with its inhabitants and its various events. A slice of life in a corner of the city often forgotten by a large part of the new inhabitants
continues Xavier Gardin. The work is a meticulous research in which the author reconstructs, number after number of the street, the life of the past inhabitants of rue du Faubourg. Through censuses, the old press and the city’s archives, it is a disappeared world that reappears in this book, ancient professions, local figures, forgotten stories, prostitution, crimes and thefts and scandalous anecdotes punctuate this book
explains Xavier Gardin. The book is available from regional booksellers.
