Psmall or large animals, wild or domestic, it's a veritable bestiary which takes place from Thursday January 16 to Sunday January 19 at the Fontafie-Genouillac village hall. For its 2025 edition, the “Délivre tes livres” festival intends to bring together young and old around a universal and fascinating subject: animals in literature.

The days of Thursday January 16 and Friday January 17 will be devoted to students from the schools of Genouillac, Roumazières and Nieuil as well as the 6th graders from the Roumazières college. More than 200 children will participate in fun and educational workshops, including book exchanges and slideshows, writing workshops and a workshop exploring animal emotions as well as a literary treasure hunt. Children in kindergarten, CP and CE1 classes will also have their special time with an exchange of books followed by a story.

A writing competition was, beforehand, open to young writers in schools, called “Tell your animal”. Participating children were invited to immortalize an animal, whether wild or domestic, through a photo and a text. The creations will be exhibited on Sunday January 19 and the best stories will be honored.
Eight fables of La Fontaine revisited
On Sunday January 19 from 10 a.m., the festival will open its doors to the general public, with book exchanges and a literary fair which will bring together a dozen local authors in the village hall. Among them, Manuel Da Silva, an Angoumois author, of Portuguese origin, born in Roumazières, known and recognized for having written and published around twenty local novels in his Mers du Sud publishing house. The writer is also at the origin with his friends of the creation of the Genouillac book fair.
He will present his latest work, “Les Sales Bêtes”. A series of short stories where animals judge humans. “So, what are the dirty beasts?” », Proclaims the back cover. As for the author, he emphasizes that “each and everyone takes it for their own account”.

All day Sunday, visitors will have the opportunity to discover an exhibition of children's works with stories and photos of participants in the “Tell your animal” competition. At midday, a “literary meal” will bring together gourmands and gourmets.
At 3 p.m., the local troupe Les Drôles de Fontafio will follow in the footsteps of La Fontaine in a humorous play which will revisit the poet's famous writings, offering a moment of poetry and family entertainment through eight cult fables.
