For a decreasing book industry – Journal Le Chiffon and Association for Book Ecology

The Rideau Rouge bookstore welcomes the newspaper The Rag for the presentation of his latest file which is a critical charge on the book industry and its disheveled productivity (number 15 of winter 2024-2025). Evening co-organized with the association for book ecology.

An overflow that drowns us: this is also the image that the literary season can leave, its overproduction of titles, flooding the tables with surprisingly uniform novelties, overwhelming the capacity to read, without this mass clearly irrigating new conversations , ways of being in the world that give joy…

Facing this ocean, it is a fragile raft that we are trying to create with this file. What evils are afflicted by Books, bookstores, public reading? ? Where did the Ile-de-France paper pulp go? ? Is a counter-world in the making? ? Why criticize the computerized sale of second-hand books ? How does a bookseller fill his fund? ? How editorial over-publication should invite us to slow down ?
