Biographies, children’s books, cookbooks, fiction novels, comic strips… Several titles from here and elsewhere were particularly appreciated by users of the municipal libraries of Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu. Here is an overview of the books that were most borrowed from the Saint-Luc, Adélard-Berger and Acadie libraries during 2024.
In terms of the most borrowed children’s books, comic books and illustrated albums are particularly popular.
The book that was the most popular in 2024 is comics L’iris blanc by Fabcaro and Didier Conrad. This is the 40e volume of the Asterix series. It was published in Canada on October 26, 2023.
With the exception of this comic strip, the ranking of the most popular children’s books includes comic book series and not a particular title from this series. This means that a good number of users borrow an entire series, and not just the first volume.
Comic series that made the top ten are Game Over designers Midam and Al, The Legendaries by Patrick Sobral, Mortelle Adele by Mr Tan and Diane Le Feyer, Kid Paddle of Midas L’Agent Jean from Quebecer Alex A and Super Dog de Dav Pilkey.
The ranking also includes three illustrated albums aimed at toddlers. It is about The color of emotions by Anna Llenas, I’m terrible by Quebec author Élise Gravel and Little Wolf goes to the doctor Orianne Lallemand.

Among the ten most borrowed books among adults, we find five Quebec works, including the autobiographical essay by Jean-Philippe Pleau, Rue Duplessis: my little darkness, the most popular book among users in 2024.
The police investigation The month of the dead by Chrystine Brouillet climbs to third place. This novel features the famous character Maud Graham. In fourth position is Michel Jean with the book Quimmick. The sixth rank belongs to the novel A world of curiosities by Louise Penny, while eighth place is occupied by May our joy remain by Kevin Lambert. This novel received the prestigious Medici, Décembre and Ringuet literary prizes in 2023.
Among the other most borrowed books among adults in 2024 are several foreign detective thriller titles, namely The summer before de Lisa Gardner (2e rang), someone else by Guillaume Musso (5e), The Desert Star de Michael Connelly (7e), A wild animal Joel Dicker (9e) et The Symphony of Monsters by Marc Lévy (10e).
Without being part of the list of the 10 most read books, other works from here have done well. The recipe book Love is in the air fryer by Alexandra Diaz is the most borrowed cookbook while Rose on the island by Michel Rabagliati is the graphic novel that most attracted users.
