A page turns. In 2024, the French will have mostly consumed from paperbacksand this is reflected in the ranking of the ten best-selling books of the year according to the GfK panelist.
In the lead, the pocket edition The Midwife (from Auschwitz)by Anna Stuart, with 499,639 copies sold. This historical fiction narrates the fate of Ana (Stanisława Leszczyńska in reality), sent to Auschwitz in 1939, and who owes her salvation only to her talents as a midwife.
Coming in second place is the thriller the Swiss author Joël Dicker, with 424,526 copies sold. In A Wild Animal, the story follows two burglars as they attack a large store in Geneva.
It is Guillaume Musso which rises to the third step of the podium: with 415,621 copies sold, Antibois signs Angélique, its twentieth novel.
The writer even has the luxury of bringing a second book in the top 10with Someone Else, sold 391,371 copies.
In fifth position, we find the Goncourt Houris prizeby writer and journalist Kamel Daoud, on the civil war in Algeria between 1992 and 2002.
The Inoxtag phenomenon is also in the top 10 sales, with its manga Instinct, in which it introduces us to the story of Haki, who will have a decisive encounter when he learns that he is affected by an incurable virus.
Gaël Faye, Renaudot 2024 prize for Jacaranda, is also in this top 10, with 344,187 copies sold.
