“Paris is always a good idea. » This is this cult line, launched by Audrey Hepburn in the film Sabrina (1954) which opens the book Paris dreamed by Clara Panetier. From unmissable monuments to more confidential addresses, this self-taught illustrator of 35 years paints a loving portrait of the capital in 300 good addresses and almost as many drawings colorful.
This is what gives this beauty its charm. coffee table book : the brilliance of the illustrations which, page after page, invite a nice walk in the four corners of the capital. It must be said that after ten years spent working on the design of trend books and the creation of color ranges, the young woman who graduated from Studio Berçot established herself as a outstanding colorist.
Rediscovering Parisian heritage
The cover of the book sets the tone: an appointment is given to us left bankon the terrace of legendary Café de Floretopped with lush vegetation – much more chic than the cloud of artificial flowers proliferating for several years on the facades of certain cafes in tourist areas!
In each chapter of this fabulous Parisian atlas corresponds to a more or less extensive geographical area. “Tuileries-Opéra”, “Triangle d’or Trocadéro-Passy”, “Marais-Bastille”, “Montparnasse-jardin des Plantes”, “République-Belleville”: through the pages, we go to the (re)discovery of the capital’s centuries-old heritageits museums, its good addresses (restaurants of course, but also shops, bookstores, etc.).
Hidden gems
Clara Panetier also makes a few detours through hidden curiosities (not always easy to find!), like the Saint-Serge-de-Radonège church, a sumptuous Russian Orthodox church nestled at the end of a passage between two buildings on rue de Crimée… Without forgetting the countless architectural gems of the capital, like André Arfvidson's majestic studio building, rue Campagne-Première, or the discreet Galerie Colbert, located in the passage of the same name… So many places that make Paris a daydream!
