For several years, Martigues has chosen, as Christmas approaches, to offer books as gifts to children in nursery schools and places welcoming young children from three months old.
For the first time this year, this presentation is not taking place at the Louis-Aragon media library but at the Louise-Michel school. Which doesn't stop the media library agents from bringing their Kamishibaï. The small wooden theater allows the agents who came this Tuesday morning to tell two stories on the Christmas theme, equipped with bells and in red and green outfits, presenting scenes like a large open book. The children listen attentively, even from nine o'clock, to the funny stories of Santa Claus with a cold, among others.
After reading, it's time for the long-awaited gifts. If Santa Claus has not yet come, education assistant Annie Kinas (PCF) takes on the role of distribution, giving each child their book according to their level. For example, the small section is entitled to Hello critters by Amandine Piu, published by Amatera, while the very small section benefits from Carrot pea by Moarag Hood, published by Galimard Jeunesse.
In total, nearly 1,700 children benefit from these gift books for a budget of 21,500 euros. The fruit of a desire that is both political and educational through the partnership with the Lire et faire lire association, with the idea of arousing a taste for reading, but also of sharing this pleasure with the family, from the youngest age and without financial barriers.
No doubt the children appreciate it, but as soon as they receive their book, we no longer hear from them.
