a book on the Peña Taurine in homage to Jean Mouneu

Saturday December 7, at 4 p.m., in the Adour room of the Cultural Center, the Historical and Cultural Association of the Country of Mugron (AHCPM) will present the work of Jean Mouneu entitled: “La Peña Taurine Mugronnaise… from the beginnings to the present day. “. A little book which summons the memory of its author, who died suddenly in the silence of his humble home located rue Vincent-de-Paul, on June 4, 2023.

The founder of the peña therefore did not have time to complete his work. “The manuscript still remained,” explains Bernard Salles. At the time of his death, it was almost complete. We therefore approached his children, Éric and Caroline, who authorized us to proceed with its publication. “.

And this is how the AHCPM took hold of his writings. “Because Nano was a Mugron figure, he left his mark on its history,” recalls his friend Bernard Salles, head of the association. “We mainly worked on corrections, formatting and inclusion of photos. On the other hand, we prohibited ourselves from any modification of the text,” confides Charles-Henri Doreau, one of the book’s designers.

A taste for adventure

A work definitively completed on September 9, after six months of work. Jean Mouneu, has brought together all the adventures that animated the life of this Peña Taurine that he carried to the baptismal font with a handful of friends, on November 20, 1986. He brings to light the true romance of an association not lacking in audacity.

Audacity was needed to launch headlong into the great adventure of the famous bullfighting Easter. This Easter Monday in the pretty placita de Condrette, now unmissable, dedicated to novillos. A peña who in the year 2000 created the “New Taurine” competition. A literary tournament imagined by Doctor Jean-Claude Mouchés, who inspired the Hemingway Prize in Nîmes.
