It's a perfect gift idea to put under the tree. The Touraine publishing house Sutton officially released its brand new work this Wednesday, December 4: 100 years of sport in Touraine.
As part of the Ici Région collection, this 192-page book retraces an entire century of sporting history through various archives. Some come straight from the departmental archives or even from the personal collection of Antoine Burbaud, editorial director of Editions Sutton, also one of the editors of the book. We are even promised new images!
Photos, interviews,… everything is there to make you relive the key moments of sport in the region, at the price of €16.90. QR Codes have even been added to direct us to videos in addition to the content of the book. For example, we can relive the 400 meter freestyle world record broken by Laure Manaudou in 2006 in the Piscine Gilbert Bozon pool (in the Sanitas district).
Far from a classic encyclopedia organized in chronological order, 100 years of sport in Touraine offers its readers a journey through time through different themes. For example, you can enjoy a section dedicated to major sporting events in Touraine; such as the various passages of the Tour de France in Tours or the two years (1988 and 1989) when the Grandmont stadium hosted the French athletics championships.
Part of the book is also used “to pay tribute to all the people who have marked the history of sport in Touraine”says Antoine Burbaud. From Claude Ménard, the first Tourangeau to win a medal at the Olympics in 1928, to Kayla Nemour, new Olympic gymnastics star coming straight from the town of Avoine.
For Antoine Burbaud, 100 years of sport in Touraine is a true way to bring back memories for sports fans of all generations. According to him, the work carries an entire cultural heritage which must endure: “This book aspires to transmission and sharing like sport does”.
He also adds that tracing the history of sport in Touraine allows us to observe “the evolution of the city of Tours and Touraine through sport”.
A great evening for the release
To mark the publication of the book, Editions Sutton are organizing an evening event this Friday, December 6 at the Vallée du Cher stadium (just next to the Exhibition Center). From 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., this highlight will be punctuated by discussions, meetings and signings. Please note that several copies of the book will be available for sale during the event.
Several big names in Touraine sport, mentioned in the book, will be present that evening. We can, for example, mention the football champion Delio Onnis or the Jocomonian cyclist Jean-Pierre Danguillaume. More information on the event directly on this Facebook post:
