How to decide between the best NBA players through the ages? What place should be given to champion titles? Individual distinctions? In the positions and number of years played to define a Top 100 of the best NBA players in history? This is the challenge that journalists David Aldridge and John Hollinger tried to address in the book « Basketball 100 » published this week.
The book therefore offers the Top 100 best players in history through 100 portraits! From George Mikan to Stephen Curry, Gary Payton, Dennis Rodman, Allen Iverson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, each star who has made basketball shine in their own way has a rich story hidden behind their exploits on the court.
Obviously, the higher we go in the ranking, the more we will find the greats who have left their mark on the basketball world, from Wilt Chamberlain to Bill Russell via LeBron James, Kobe Bryant and of course Michael Jordan, still considered today as the ” Ultimate Goat, for having won six NBA finals in six appearances, with two hat-tricks in the 90s, at the time when basketball became a global sport, like the NBA which became international during the following decade.
To try to decide between all these people, John Hollinger, who invented the “Player Efficiency Rating” (PER), invented a new unit of measurement, called “GOAT Points”. The one who counts the most will arrive at the top of a dizzying list.
The book “Basketball 100” is released this week in the United States. It is also available to order or via E-Book on Amazon
