IN PICTURES – Success for the 4th edition of the book sale at the Domaine de Bayssan, in Béziers

More than 10,000 and CDs on sale this Saturday at the Bayssan estate in Béziers. It was the 4th edition of the book sale organized by the department of Hérault. Each book was sold for 50 cents, with a limit of 15 pounds per person. The boxes were full of novels, documentaries, encyclopedias, dictionaries, mangas. There really was something for everyone!

More than a hundred people were in line as soon as it opened. “We didn’t plan thissmiles Cindy, who came with her two children. We're going to stock up on our libraries, mangas for adults, documentaries on animals for children. And all this at a lower cost!” Maryse was also attracted by the price : “I read six books a month, so my literature budget is exploding a bit, that feels good!”

Works removed from the department's media libraries

Some are happy to find CDs that are no longer available. “I have two or three jazz nuggets”slips Jean-Paul proudly. These 10,000 works actually come from the department's 235 media libraries. “These are old books that librarians have removed from collections to make room and renew the offering”explains Thierry Antoine, head of department at the Hérault departmental library. Books which are nevertheless in good condition.

The operation has in any case brought together all generations, “good sign” for Thierry Antoine. “We keep saying that reading is down, but that’s not true, we’ve attracted children, parents, grandparents, it’s great!”

All these little people have already marked the date of the next clearance sale, in 2026.
