The Matulu association, which provides access to Books for very young children, is celebrating its 10th anniversary in Hérouville

To blow out its candles, the Matulu association, created in November 2014, is organizing Sunday, December 1, 2024, a afternoon at the Café des images in Hérouville Saint-Clair. A whole program for this structure which works for ten years to create from the link between parents and children, by means of reading times and discovery of Books. Meeting with Catherine Villedieu, a passionate volunteer.

To enable the creation of a bond between children and parents, but also to make accessible books for toddlers, the association has organized, since its creation, individualized reading times for children aged 0 to 3.

“We apply a method which consists of setting up a reading moment with only one child. He chooses a book and our readers try to have a neutral tone. The idea is not to impose anything, but to allow the child to use his imagination” explains Catherine Villedieu, a volunteer for seven years.

Books with images, contrasts, textures, text or even braille writing, parents are also there for advice “We notice that some parents do not have the confidence to read a story to their child or that they have had a difficult history with the subject matter of the book. Our goal is also to raise awareness and inform so that these moments can be renewed at home” indicates Catherine.

The association is present almost everywhere

During him propose actions in several cities of Calvados and particularly in rural areas. It is possible to benefit from these moments at maternity of the Caen University Hospital, but also at EACH (Reception Center for Asylum Seekers) in Caen or in the waiting room of P.M.I (Maternal and child protection) of Pont-l’Évêque, Dozulé and Douvres-la-Délivrande.

The association is also a truck who comes to meet families at the bottom of buildings in Hérouville, in the Haute Folie district and offers a timeless moment in the converted vehicle.

“We found a good space at the bottom of the buildings in Hérouville. It's on the way back from school and each time, we welcome between 10 and 20 children over the two hours. We also have the opportunity to see the children again and see their progress. »

Around ten women involved all year round

To understand how the association exists, we need to look more closely at the behind the scenes. In the team, one ten women, between 30 and 75 years old, engaged all year round during actions. With a collegial mode of operation, the association has two employees.

For Matulu, the ambition is not to grow but “to continue to do projects like these, while remaining close to families and children. Our values ​​are important: exchange, sharing and even the well-being of children. »

Meet at the Café des images

To celebrate their tenth anniversary, the association is organizing, Sunday December 1, 2024, at the Café des images, an afternoon of entertainmentfrom 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. in Hérouville Saint-Clair, for ages 0 to 6.

On the program, individual readingsengraving workshop (bookmark creation), book creation workshop for four hands (parents and children), screening of a series of short films (€5 per adult and €4 per child).

At the end of the day, at 4:30 p.m., a “Carré Livres” show by the Magnanarelle company and performed by Marie Lemoine.
