Sandrine Collette receives both the Swiss Goncourt and that of high school students – rts.ch

Goncourt Choice of Switzerland on Wednesday and Goncourt Prize of high school students this Thursday, November 28, the novel “Madelaine before dawn” by the Frenchwoman Sandrine Collette was able to touch the student juries of these two literary awards.

For the second year in a row, the Choix Goncourt de la Suisse and the Prix Goncours des lycéens, two awards given by juries made up of students, honor the same novel. After Neige Sinno in 2023 for “Triste tigre”, it is the turn of Sandrine Collette to be doubly crowned for her “Madelaine avant l’aube”, published by JC Lattès.

Wednesday at the French Residence in Bern where the Swiss prize was announced, French Ambassador Marion Paradas praised an “enlightened choice” which rewards “a talented female voice, in a powerful story about the revolt”.

“Words fail me”

Joined Thursday by the jury of the Goncourt Prize for high school students, Sandrine Collette, whose previous novel “We were wolves” was rewarded in 2022 with the Jean Giono prize and the Renaudot prize for high school students, exclaimed: “What an adventure! must be one of the rare times when words fail me I think my heart is beating a little too fast, it doesn’t reflect my joy, otherwise I would be jumping around saying a lot of bad words, but I do. will avoid… Thank you very much!”

In this tale that escapes time, the 54-year-old French novelist paints the portrait of Madelaine, a hungry and wild little girl who emerges from the forests. The child will bring light to the inhabitants of the hamlet of Des Montées, before leading them to the tragedy that will explode their lives at the same time as their ancestral serfdom.
