In this issue we reflect on the democratization of reading, an educational and cultural issue – but we will try to redefine this issue which mobilizes many actors and actresses in the book world: publishing, libraries, bookstores.
We are talking about it on the occasion of Book and youth press fair in Seine-Saint-Denis – the great event of children's literature which celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2024 and will take place from 11/27 to 12/02 – the opportunity to ask ourselves with its director, Sylvie Vassalo, how to defend reading when the time devoted to screens is ten times higher than that recorded in Books. We will review other data and figures on young readers with Régine Hatchondo, president of the National Book Center (CNL), and together, we will discuss new avenues for reading (because we are all concerned) and doing reading and even re-reading children, paths traced by Laetitia Veniat, publisher at Bel et Bien editions (inclusive publishing house), associate lecturer in children's literature, book career path (Le Mans University), and Project Manager A vous le sup' (Sciences Po Lille).
In this program you will also hear the voices of Hélène Valotteau, Chief Curator and Head of the youth and heritage center of the Françoise Sagan media library who blows out the candles for the 100th anniversary of the first youth library in France The Happy Hour through the exhibition What's the point of reading? (from November 12 to March 23, 2025), Cécile Chagnon, librarian at L'Heure Joyeuse, and Thibaut Canuti, chief curator of the Libraries – director of the Libraries of Martigues, on the subject of the Médiabus of Martigues.
