In the United States, Hachette Book Group, the American branch of Lagardère Publishing, finalized on November 20 the acquisition of 100% of the capital of Sterling Publishing Co. Inc. from the Barnes & Noble bookstore network.
Lagardère Publishing is the 3rd largest publishing group in the world. It generates more than two thirds of its turnover internationally, including around 30% in the United States and Canada.
Hachette Book Group is the 4th largest general public publisher in the United States. It recorded strong momentum in its activities with growth of nearly 8% in the first half of 2024, underlines the Lagardère group press release.
This acquisition will further strengthen the presence and offering of Hachette Book Group in the USA. And perhaps make it climb in one of these two rankings. Sterling Publishing has a catalog of 13,000 titles and publishes approximately 350 new titles per year. The house publishes fiction and non-fiction for adults with the brands Union Square & Co, Puzzlewright Press, Sterling Ethos and Spark Notes, children's literature with Union Square Kids and Boxer Books, the author and illustrator of children's books, Mo Willems and many authors.
