The Book and Youth Press Fair, the largest annual meeting of literature for young people, celebrates its 40th anniversary this year with a “General Dream!” edition, which offers the opportunity to experience the combined powers of dreams and literature.

For forty years already, he has been sowing the seeds of dreams among young people (and adults too)… The Children's Book and Press Fair will open its doors from November 27 to December 2, 2024 in Montreuil, near . This year's event will have a playful theme: “General Dream!”

“The dream stimulates, stages the emotions, draws the unprecedented, expresses the unspeakable…” For its 40th edition, the Book and Youth Press Fair offers “to experience the combined powers of dreams and literature “.

Big news, entry this year will be free for all. Please note, however, that each visitor (child and adult) must have a ticket to enter. They can be collected on the site.

Unmissable event

A showcase for the diversity of creation and contemporary publishing in children's literature, the Children's Book and Press Fair, which is aimed at both the general public and professionals, traditionally attracts a large crowd of schoolchildren from all three first days during the week, then families on the weekend.

Witness to the exponential interest that children's literature has experienced over the last forty years – according to the National Publishing Union, children's publishing has moved from the 5th publishing sector to the 3rd – the Salon brings together nearly 200,000 people each year in Montreuil. visitors, to whom he invites them to wander among the stands of some 400 publishing houses of all sizes, to stock up on literary discoveries. The Salon is also a festival of exhibitions, workshops and signings where “a good atmosphere and authors and reading are in the spotlight”.

“More than just a Fair, this literary event offers multiple opportunities for children and young people, their families and professionals to encounter the best of children's literature. The mediation proposals are diverse: exhibition, meetings with book stakeholders (artists, publishers, booksellers, etc.), fun workshops, audiovisual resources, recommendation spaces… so many actions that can nourish a literary journey aimed at the youth,” announced the organizers, who invited more than 250 artists and some 2,000 authors and illustrators to conferences or signings.

Nuggets and a Big Dipper

As is tradition, on its opening day, namely Wednesday November 27, the Salon will present its “Nuggets”, the trophies for the best books in several categories: comics, teen fiction, junior fiction and illustrated books.

At the same time, a jury of literary critics will award the Golden Nugget, which recognizes the best book of the year. With the holidays approaching, we can only recommend digging into the selection, which is always a gold mine to stock up on gifts to slip under the tree…

The Salon also awarded its Big Dipper at the beginning of November to, a sure value whose writings are also to be offered without hesitation, the Franco-American author Susie Morgenstern, a living legend of children's literature who has written more than 'a hundred works. “Her books, which celebrate everyday life, school, family, sisterhood and intergenerational relationships, are imbued with her capacity to marvel and her quest for happiness, whether through laughter, emotions, or the beauty of small things,” commented the jury in a press release. A regular at the show, she will come to meet her fans young and old.
