In the genre – which is gaining more and more readers every year – new romance, Emilie Parizot has found her place in a few works. A place confirmed by the duology of this author of La Farlède, released only a few weeks ago.
“Hors d'oeuvres and prejudices” first, or the romance between the attractively physical chef whose recipes are acclaimed on social networks and the young culinary critic; “Macaroons and feelings” then, where the best friend of the chef (with whom he opened a restaurant) and talented pastry chef falls in love with the woman who runs a snack bar next to a chest of drawers… And who stole the recipe from him of its famous crème brûlée. The style is lively, lively, the dialogues elevated. All not without humor. A mayonnaise in two volumes that takes hold from the first pages… “It was while talking with my best friend, the one who was the first person to proofread me, who helped me build the story etc., that the theme of cooking emerged. In addition, I, who am “Vietnamese origin from my father and Creole from my mother, cooking is something essential…”
The link. And the meaning.
Writing entered the life of the young woman almost by chance, who is, on the other hand, a great reader. And this since childhood: “My first memory of a book is “Les Misfortunes de Sophie” by the Countess of Segur”. The beginning of a “long love story” with the works and the authors. “Every Wednesday, my mother took me to the library and I changed books. I read and reread them so much that she ended up buying them for me…” She is now an avid reader, able to open a book at 9 p.m. and “stay up as much as possible, until two in the morning”to go as far as possible into the story… Thrillers especially. “When I was 13, I discovered the Goosebumps series, then Blue Scare” and thrillers took their place. On her bedside table at the moment, “The Maid’s Secrets”, obviously a thriller.
Until 2018, “I loved writing as much as cooking…” But why the new romance? “My best friend wrote on a Hugo platform [également sa maison d’édition Ndlr]which regularly offers writing competitions, including new romance. I reread what she wrote, I rephrased her sentences. One day, she asked me to participate…” And the Christmas romance did the rest.
Since then, the author has signed several “appetizers” before arriving, this fall, with the main course and the dessert… A way of speaking of course, since a new work is already being written and should arrive by the end of 2025.
But then Emilie, why does new romance work so well? “No doubt because it is the life that is told there,” confides the young woman with humility. “Everyone can find themselves in the different characters, the character traits…” The women in his last two novels take a lot from his mother, moreover, and from his best friend. Strong, independent, and determined.
