Private daycare scandal: the book that accuses Minister Aurore Bergé of petty arrangements

Advice and exchanges on “crisis management”, as good “friends” on the Telegram messaging service for months. A knowing informality. And above all, a “non-aggression pact” concluded between, on the one hand, the former Minister of the Family Aurore Bergé and, on the other, Elsa Hervy, head of a federation representing 1,100 daycare companies in France. The journalist Victor Castanet, author in 2022 of the bestseller “Les Fossoyeurs” on the Orpea system and the failures of private retirement homes, is at it again. This time, he is chipping away at the “Ogres” (to be published on September 18 by Flammarion), the early childhood sector and the murky links which unite the government and large private profit-making groups, companies which represent 25% of nursery places in France.

In this second investigative book, which we have obtained, the author explores in detail the practices of People and Baby, a controversial heavyweight in the sector, whose former CEO with a lavish lifestyle is described as the “Bernard Tapie of daycare centers” (contacted, Christophe Durieux, founder and CEO until April 2024 of People and Baby, did not wish to make any comment).
