The deputy for the 3rd constituency of Tarn Jean Terlier visiting Sorèze was interested, among other things, in the installation of the book fair and the school.
It was in the company of Alain Martinez, president of the In-Libris association, and mayor Alain Schmidt that MP Jean Terlier was able to see for himself to what extent a book fair requires precise, long and arduous preparations. .
From room to room the president of the association spoke to him about the work accomplished, with 1,200 visitors last year as a result, and the work to be done to do even better this year. He recalled that it is a great opportunity to benefit from this emblematic and magnificent place.
The parliamentarian explored other aspects of this abbey which still amazes him, was interested in the progress of the work for the hotel, but also in the main chapel which he did not yet know and which is beginning to undergo some roof waterproofing hazards. This year it was heated for the comfort of exhibitors (book trades among others). The temporary exhibition room particularly interested him with, for example, the three period copies (out of 36) of Diderot and d'Alembert's encyclopedia, and a rare and precious book by Isaac Newton, but also two large and magnificent models of famous sailboats.
Jean Terlier comments: “I am, as always when I come to Sorèze, very pleasantly surprised to see that many high-quality cultural events are organized around this abbey.” He was also interested in the poem competition offered to students in classes in the area.
During his visit to the school, the MP spoke to them about his job and offered the students a little role play: “You are all MPs and you are going to choose a president, debate and vote on the mobile phone in college” .
After the debate, they chose to allow it even though at the beginning they were against it…
