A book accuses Aurore Bergé of having concluded a secret agreement with the private nursery lobby while she was Minister of Families

the essential
The resigning minister Aurore Bergé is accused in the new book to be published by Victor Castanet, who investigated the private daycare business, after having exposed the Orpea scandal in retirement homes. According to his research, the former Minister of Families was in close contact with the private daycare lobby during her time in government.

Have private daycare centers benefited from the complacency of the person who was their main contact in government last year? This is what Victor Castanet, the author of the shocking book “Les fossoyeurs”, which shook the private retirement home sector in 2022, believes he knows. His new book devoted to the world of early childhood is due to be released soon.

The contents of the book were able to be consulted by our colleagues at Parisianwho noticed a passage that was at least embarrassing for Aurore Bergé. It explains her close relationship with a certain Elsa Hervy, current spokesperson for the French Federation of Nursery Enterprises (FFEC), whom she met at the time when they were both on the UMP side. Elsa Hervy held the position of parliamentary and then ministerial advisor to Brice Hortefeux, then Christian Estrosi, explains the Parisian newspaper.

A connection that was reactivated many years later, in 2023, when the two women found themselves on the front line of the same case: that of the excesses of private daycare centers, under the spotlight after the death of an 11-month-old girl in an establishment of the “People & Baby” group. The tragedy led to the publication of two investigative books a year later, and the launch of an investigation by the General Inspectorate of Social Affairs.

A “non-aggression pact”

On one side was the minister in charge of these issues in the government, and on the other the one who represented the interests of the sector. And according to information from Victor Castanet in his new book “Les Ogres”, the two women would have agreed last year on a “non-aggression pact” when managing this storm: “The giants of the sector are careful not to hit the government and to question the early childhood policy followed in recent years, in exchange for which the government will show leniency”, describes the author.

Invited to comment on these facts in Le Parisien, Aurore Bergé reportedly denied “any proximity or form of cronyism” with Elsa Hervy, who for her part is refraining from any comment pending the publication of the book, scheduled for September 18.
