It is a hodgepodge of works impossible to identify and stored on large tables or stored in boxes, at the François-Mitterrand space, which adjoins the Guingamp town hall. “We released 40 m3 this year and there are still 20 in reserve to ensure renewal. It’s off to a very good start,” says Philippe Dollo, treasurer of Kuzul, the parents’ association organizing the now-unmissable book fair at the Diwan school in Guingamp.
€15,000 in 2023
In 2023, four tonnes of Books, sold for €4 per kilo, were sold, for a total amount of €15,000. “All of the funds are donated to the Popular Education Association which oversees the functioning of the school, like our various actions such as the organization of meals and fest-noz,” continues Philippe Diallo, helped five to six volunteers every day working at the checkouts or ensuring storage in the aisles. Open Sunday November 17 and Monday November 18, the book fair will continue over the next two weekends.
A network in difficulty
At the start of the 2024 school year, the Skol Diwan network, faced with inflation in its expenses and stagnation in its numbers, launched an appeal for donations. On October 18, the €500,000 necessary to balance its 2024 accounting year had been found from local authorities, individuals and corporate donors. “Thanks to this support and consistent payment deadlines, we now have financial visibility until the first quarter of 2025,” explained a press release emphasizing the importance of local mobilizations within its network.
