a book on the exhibition dedicated to the canton's schools

The Cail association (Committee around a local inventor) produced a book from its exhibition The school in the canton of Chef-Boutonnepresented in October, at the Château de Javarzay, in Chef-Boutonne.

The exhibition has left the walls of the castle, but it can be found in its entirety in this beautiful book (on sale at the town hall, in the Mag Presse and Intermarché stores, or on the association's website http://www. cailjf.sitew.com). It is also available to municipalities and schools in the former canton of Chef-Boutonne.

At the origin of this idea, Marc Richard, vice-president, who owned many school objects, collected everywhere. “There followed a long research work on the history of the seventeen municipalities, the municipal registers, up to the departmental archives”, indicates Jean-Louis Thomas, president of the association.

Photos, books, diplomas…

Five hundred photos, six display cases of books, diplomas, geographical maps, an old classroom: from these four years of work, Michel Georges, deputy treasurer, has fond memories of a remark from a little girl aged 8 years : “I was able to see my little grandpa and grandma at school. »

This Saturday, November 16, 2024 at 2:30 p.m., the general assembly of the association will be held, Camille-Ricard room, in Chef-Boutonne. Volunteers will present numerous projects around Jean-François Cail: creation of fact sheets for the public on the machines used at 19e century, study of documents, contributions to the site. People wishing to get involved are welcome.
