Michel Deutsch is a writer, director and screenwriter. His new book: “uncrease the pages of the book”
Presentation :
Many poets, essayists, novelists and playwrights, above all curious about their time, have asked themselves in what ways and what procedures art, particularly literature, could approach reality. How can we produce “flashes of truth” (Conrad), create “lanterns that illuminate the present”?
The reflections on theater and literature collected here attempt to evaluate – beyond the themes and conceptions which overlap and follow one another, despite the impasses and changes of orientation – the multiple paths which lead literature to the theater, and theater to literature. At a time when theater, in the wake of Antonin Artaud, seems to have reinvented itself alongside, if not far from, the text, and when the entire critical enterprise devoted to theater now consists of “redeeming” the text (when that -this is still carried on the stage) by its representation, its staging, the author maintains here that the idea of theater is literature, and this since Racine, since the Romantics of Jena – that the The voice of the theater has always resonated in literature.
