Karley Weinberg (@karleyweinberg), mom and TikTok content creator, recently shared her method for helping overcome childhood trauma as an adult. “The only thing that really helped me understand my childhood trauma, or understand that it was childhood trauma, was'Imagine that my own children experience exactly what I experienced'she explains.
“Because when I imagine it, I am devastated. I am horrified to see them in the same situation as me. I think it helped me understand the magnitude of what I went through in a way that I couldn't understand until I had kids “. And according to her, this advice should not be limited to parents. “Anyone who loves or cares about a child can try this method” she assures. “Imagine them in your shoes when you were a child and think about how you would feel”she insists. “And if that terrifies you, your childhood was traumatic » she concludes.
Internet users were quick to identify with this practice. “It was my children who opened my eyes to my childhood”said one of them. “My sister and I were telling a “funny family story” and our children were looking at us in horror. That's when I understood.” wrote another person. “When my son was about four months old, I sent my parents a letter asking them how they could have treated me like this”assures a last one.
It even seems that this practice can be useful beyond treating childhood trauma. “This is how my therapist helped me leave my ex-husband”says an Internet user. “Imagining my daughter married to him…”
