Going to meet the writer Jean-Louis Pelletier is like going back in time, somewhat nostalgically, to the years 1970-1980. Years which were a pretext for writing a work relating “experiences lived, trials endured and unexpected words captured”.
A real dive into a universe and a raw reality, evoking the madness of everyday life, which the author depicts with acerbic and satirical humor. An author who “explores the social contrasts of the time, between those who have and those who have not”.
Jean-Louis Pelletier has made all of this a first work which delivers true stories of intellectual wanderings, real events, improbable encounters and above all, a desire to relate a certain freedom of spirit. Between gypsies and a glass of red wine. A freedom embodied according to him by Jack Kerouac, “he’s a real brother to me”he says. Titled Head in the sacthe work is a real “symphony of life, played with undone notes and deviations. Under a sharp pen which relates the atmosphere of bars, paths, streets, maids' rooms or even the first generations of HLM”, underlines the editor.
Football, army, photography and collages
A tortuous life, therefore, which should have led the author to a career as a professional football player, because he was very gifted for discipline, but it was towards the army and the navy commandos that he turned, “while I am anti-militarist”he said. “But I needed the sensations and the adrenaline. »
Arriving in Saint-Pierre-des-Corps in 1986, penniless, after a work accident which forced him to become disabled as a typographer, Jean-Louis Pelletier devoted himself, in addition to writing, to his passion for collage and photography. Collages exhibited in the 1980s and just waiting to come back into the open. “But I am not known”, he regrets.
A visit to his house, which dates from 1880, is a reflection of this undeniable artistic talent. It is carefully decorated by integrating old objects and chance finds. A revealing house “from a persistent dream of becoming an artist to embrace freedom”. A dream that Jean-Louis Pelletier lived between 1984 and 1987 through exhibitions of his collages which allowed him to sell two thirds of his works presented.
A journey that will lead him towards another form of expression, that of writing. A form that he handles wonderfully through his work.
“Head in the bag, brilliant news of very thin delirium”, by Jean-Louis Pelletier published by Baudelaire.
