Wednesday, November 6, Mayor Gérard Barthez, elected officials Suzanne Arnaud, Yves Mendoza, and Sylvie Montoya, head of the municipal library, presented 20 new books for young and old, ordered as part of the national commemorations calendar. France Mémoire, the mission of national commemorations and historical anniversaries, is a service of the Institut de France. Each year, France Mémoire publishes a calendar of fifty anniversaries relating to personalities, works or events marking the history of France. For each date, France Mémoire produces original historical resources, puts educational tools online and disseminates information. From this list, the library and the municipality had chosen several themes: 1124, birth of Eleanor of Aquitaine; April 30, 1524, death of Chevalier Bayard; September 16, 1824, death of Louis XVIII; February 9, 1874, death of the Countess of Ségur; May 22, 1924, birth of Charles Aznavour; August 19, 1924, death of postman Cheval; November 23, 1924, transfer of Jaurès’ ashes to the Pantheon; April 2, 1974, death of Georges Pompidou; April 18, 1974, death of Marcel Pagnol; November 24, 1974, discovery of Lucy’s body.
As a reminder, the Aude departmental media library, via the Bibliobus (next visit on Tuesday November 12), makes 400 books available to the municipal library twice a year. The town hall, for its part, approves a budget of €1,400 each year for the purchase of books. The library, under the leadership of Sylvie Montoya, operates 10:30 hours per week, including 5 hours dedicated to children: two afternoons with schoolchildren (with whom she participates in particular in The Incorruptibles), and one hour every Wednesday with the crèche . It is open to everyone on Wednesday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., and Monday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. You can already find Bertand Claverie’s latest book there, Territories of joywho donated it. On request, at any time of the year, you can also order a specific book.
