“History of the communes of Périgord”, by Guy Penaud

Former police commissioner and historian, Guy Penaud has published numerous works, particularly on Périgord and its history. He is the author, among other things, of a biographical dictionary of Périgord, a dictionary of the castles of Périgord, the History of the bishops and dioceses of Périgueux and Sarlat or a dictionary of churches and chapels of Périgord .

No one was therefore better placed than him to evoke in his latest work the past and present of all the communes of the Dordogne department. President of the Eugène Le Roy Institute, he is a Knight of the Legion of Honor and a Knight of Arts and Letters.

This unpublished work traces the history of all the communes of Périgord, not only those which exist today but also all those which have disappeared or which have merged to give birth to new communities. Where do their names come from? What are their Occitan transcriptions? When was it first mentioned? What are the most important monuments or the most remarkable events that support their history? So much data which can only fascinate those who are interested in the place of their birth or the town where they live. This reference work has obtained the support of the Dordogne Departmental Council and its President, Germinal Peiro, author of the preface.
