DayFR Euro

an edition dedicated to developments in the book

The first day of SLM PRO, November 27, opens with a dinner conference dedicated to the impact of reading communities, such as BookTok, on reading habits. This theme, resolutely contemporary and current, will be explored in depth by Maude Fiset, founder of the Sujet CLO reading clubs, Ariane Lehoux of Librairies independents du Québec (LIQ), and Nell Pfeiffer, author and literary influencer.

This day also offers a workshop led by La Piscine, a Quebec accelerator, on digital perspectives for the book professions.

Between the book market and social issues

Thursday, November 28 will be mainly marked by the Translation Rights Fair, a networking space allowing Canadian publishers to exchange rights and enrich their catalogs. At the same time, a conference on diversity and inclusion in children's and adolescent literature will highlight inspiring initiatives with speakers from Scholastic Canada, Héritage and illustration researchers. The day continues with a presentation of the Public Lending Right Program (PLR) by the Canada Council for the Arts.

Friday November 29 is dedicated to several themes. The day will begin with an analysis of book market trends in Quebec with Christian Reeves of the BTLF, a cultural business development company in Quebec, followed by a round table on alternative publishing models. It will bring together professionals and academics to debate new approaches to publication.

Another roundtable will look at audio production, offering discussions on the podcast and audiobook market, with an international perspective provided by a Swedish publisher.

Talk about harassment

A workshop on harassment in a cultural environment will be led by legal experts and clinicians from Juripop and Aparté. The programming ends with two round tables, one detailing the impacts of artificial intelligence on the industry, and the other analyzing the rise in popularity of the romance genre, with a view to deconstructing certain prejudices.
