This is the fifth work by the Malian economist and banker, nicknamed “the emerging man”. Having remained discreet in recent years, confined to his research “laboratory”, Cheikhna Cissé explains a silence that some had interpreted as a resignation. “I have never deserted either the field of reflection or that of writing… During this period, there was neither reflection nor inflection, even less deflection. Certainly, emergencies diverted me towards other life projects. » In short, what better denial to oppose than a book, the author’s fifth, with the striking title: “Accounts, accounts, misaccounts of the banks of the UMOA”.
31 years of banking experience! It’s worth telling! It’s shared!
The work appears voluminous (470 pages) and even complex, given the subjects covered. It explores in depth the workings of the WAMU banking sector, offering the reader the opportunity to reinforce their convictions or to question certain certainties. It is a contribution rich in analyzes and proposals.
In the first part, “Accounts”, four main themes are developed: the size of the WAMU economy and banking market, the decision-making center, the banking system of the populations, and the state of bank financing of the economies.
The second part, “Counts”, offers a unique and dynamic classification of banking centers, banking groups and the main establishments operating in the UMOA zone, based on criteria of activity and profitability.
Finally, the third part, “Miscomptes”, addresses various recent or recurring issues of the WAMU banking system, such as human capital, governance, the loan and securities portfolio, treasury, refinancing, non-operating fixed assets, payments in payment, consumer credit, the fight against money laundering, and other equally important themes.
